# Unified Social Media API: One Key for Every Network

> What a unified social media API actually is, why per platform scrapers do not scale, and how Socify’s one schema REST surface fits products and agents.

A unified social media API is one auth, one JSON envelope, many networks. Per-platform scrapers do not scale for products and agents.

## Comparison table

| Approach | Auth | Schema | Best when |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Official Graph APIs | Per vendor | Per vendor | You own the account |
| DIY scrapers | Your proxies | Yours to maintain | Research / one network |
| Actor marketplace | Per Actor | Per Actor | Niche one off jobs |
| Unified API (Socify) | One key | One envelope | Products & agents |

Socify: nine platforms, `GET /api/v1/{platform}/{resource}`, Bearer key, credits on success, 100 free credits/mo, no RPM cap.

## Data fields

Every successful Socify lookup uses one envelope: ok, platform, resource, data, and meta (credits_charged and latency_ms). Product fields live in data. Unification means those five top level keys never reshuffle when you swap Instagram for TikTok or YouTube. Inside data, fields are platform specific and documented per resource.

- Same URL pattern: GET /api/v1/{platform}/{resource}
- Same auth: one Bearer key
- Same meta: credits_charged and latency_ms on every success
- Platform payload: profile stats, video rows, comment threads, as listed on each endpoint page

If a vendor still returns a different root object per network, you do not have a unified social media API. You have a router over incompatible scrapers.

## Reliability

Socify publishes a 99.97% monthly uptime SLA for the API service (auth, routing, and response delivery). That is the Socify hop, not a promise that any upstream network will always answer.

- Live health and historical uptime per endpoint are on the status page.
- Failed or unavailable lookups are not charged when Socify cannot complete the request.
- One status page covers nine platforms. You still treat a TikTok 502 differently from an Instagram 404; the envelope and error docs stay the same.
- Retry 502 / 503 / 504 with backoff. Do not retry 400, 401, 402, or 404 with the same payload.

Actor marketplaces can look similar on a happy path and still bill compute on retries. Credit on success plus a public status page is the reliability model here.

## Rate limits

Socify does not enforce request per minute or concurrency caps on your account. Monthly credits are the only hard quota.

- Typical cost is 1 credit per successful lookup, documented per endpoint.
- A 402 with insufficient credits means the lookup did not run. Upgrade or wait for the monthly refill.
- Upstream platforms can still throttle. That surfaces as a 502 with a rate limited message, not a Socify RPM table, and is not billed as a success.
- Credits behave the same on Instagram and Reddit. There is no per platform RPM table to keep in a spreadsheet.

Official Graph style APIs still ship hourly token caps. Prepaid Instagram or TikTok APIs often hide the real limit in a minimum top up. Credits keep the meter in one place.

## Terms

A unified API does not replace platform terms. Each network still has its own rules. Socify returns publicly available data only. Private accounts, DMs, and gated media are out of scope.

- You are responsible for applicable law and for each platform’s terms of service. Socify does not grant rights in third party content beyond delivering the JSON response.
- Do not use the API for harassment, fraud, stalking, or unauthorized access to private data.
- Keep API keys server side. Sharing keys in public clients or repos can get them revoked.
- This page is not legal advice. Read the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy before you store or resell anything you fetch.

Owned account publishing, ads, and inbox work still belong on official partner APIs. A scraper API is for public reads you are allowed to request.
