How to build an Instagram Engagement Rate Calculator

Before paying for a reel or story collab, brands check followers against recent likes and comments. This tutorial builds that screen with Socify’s Instagram detailed endpoint and a short engagement formula (average and median).

Socify endpoints used

This screen is a thin layer over public Socify lookups: same paths you call with your own key.

~10 credits per full run.

Logic behind the screen

per_post_rate = (likes + comments) ÷ followers × 100

Instagram detailed returns edge_followed_by plus a recent timeline sample. We average like + comment counts on up to 6 posts and divide by followers. Influencer CRMs and in-house brand teams run this screen before a paid partnership.

  1. Pull the detailed profile

    GET /api/v1/instagram/detailed?username=… returns follower count, verification, privacy, and a recent timeline edges array with like and comment counts.

  2. Average the sample

    Take up to 6 recent public posts. For each: likes from edge_media_preview_like.count and comments from edge_media_to_comment.count.

  3. Gate the collab

    engagement_rate = avg(likes+comments) ÷ followers × 100. The demo flags ok_to_collab when the account is public, ≥1k followers, and ≥1% rate: a common first-pass used by agency ops before a human brief.
